General Information
Welcome to Studium Generale, the scientific discussion platform of the University of Utrecht. Meet famous scientists of all academic disciplines, enter into a debate with thinkers and hear writers reveal their inner motives. Studium Generale offers lectures, symposia and debates to students, teachers and anyone interested in science and the arts and the way they are related. All our activities are free and open to anyone without prior reservation. Make your selection of individual lectures, talks or discussions or attend a whole series of activities covering a subject form the angle of different disciplines. Our watch our activities on line! Every activity is broadcasted life through the Internet and you can watch them again afterwards! You will find most of our activities in the evening in the University Aula at Domplein in Utrecht or during luch time at the University Library in De Uithof.

What Google does not tell you
Studium Generale provides you with knowledge you wouldn’t find while watching television or searching the web with Google.  During your studies and afterwards you are sure to acquire knowledge by reading books or surfing the Internet. However Studium Generale offers you the opportunity to meet the scientists and thinkers behind the knowledge. It offers a chance to discuss interesting topics with the experts and to meet people who share your interests. You get to know the latest in every academic field without any further obligations.

Studium Generale activities aim at an academic level of thinking without prior knowledge of the specific topic. What is the importance of Studium Generale for Utrecht University? An academic education is more than acquiring theoretical knowledge in your own specialism. It also involves insight in the way disciplines relate to each other and the societal impact of knowledge. That’s why Utrecht University thinks an interdisciplinary and a social responsible approach is important.

Education and learning are never-ending processes and the debate on the role of scientific knowledge in society is does not only concern lecturers and students, the programme has always been open to anyone interested form inside or outside the university. So feel welcome!
