Ebner-Landy is gespecialiseerd in de filosofie van de esthetiek. Ze is auteur van het boek 'The Character Sketch as Philosophy: Manners, Mores en Types’, in 2025 uitgegeven bij Harvard University Press. Hierin laat Ebner-Landy zien dat vroegmoderne Europeanen de karakterschets, het beschrijven van bepaalde typen mensen en gedragingen, omarmden als bron van morele en politieke vorming. Ebner-Landy is geïnteresseerd in de vraag wat we over onszelf kunnen leren door naar deze karakterschetsen in de geschiedenis te kijken.

Dr Katie Ebner-Landy is an Assistant Professor of Aesthetics at Utrecht University, and a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows.

Ebner-Landy specialises in the philosophy of aesthetics. She is the author of the book The Character Sketch as Philosophy: Manners, Mores and Types, published in 2025 by Harvard University Press. In it, Ebner-Landy shows that early modern Europeans embraced character sketches, descriptions of certain types of people and behaviors, as a source of moral and political education. Ebner-Landy is interested in the question of what we can learn about ourselves by looking at these character sketches throughout history.
