Prof. dr. Marc Timmers werkt momenteel als hoofd van een onderzoeksgroep aan het departement Molecular Cancer Research aan UMC Utrecht.

Het doel van dit departement is het trainen van de volgende generatie biomedische wetenschappers en dokters. Het onderzoek richt zich op moleculaire processen in cellen. Timmers studeerde scheikunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam en Leiden en promoveerde in de moleculaire biologie aan de Universiteit van Leiden.

Na zijn studie werkte hij als onderzoeker aan het Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Hier was hij postdoc bij prof. Phillip Sharp, die in 1993 de Nobelprijs voor de Fysiologie of Geneeskunde won. Sinds 2001 is hij hoogleraar Moleculaire Biologie aan de Universiteit Utrecht.

Currently prof. dr. Marc Timmers is head of a researchteam at the department Molecular Cancer Research of UMC Utrecht. The aim of this department is training the next generation of biomedical scientists and doctors. The research focuses on molecular processes in cells. Timmers studied chemistry at the University of Amsterdam and Leiden. He obtained a PhD in molecular biology at Leiden University.

After his education, he worked as a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Here he was a postdoc with prof. Phillip Sharp, who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Since 2001, Timmers is professor of molecular biology at Leiden University.
