Neiman schrijft veel over de verbinding tussen verlichtende morele filosofie, metafysica en politiek. In haar laatste boek, Morele helderheid, pleit Neiman voor een herwaardering van het morele denken, en voor een nieuwe invulling van klassieke begrippen als goed en kwaad, heldendom en eerzaamheid. Daarbij grijpt zij terug op het verlichtingsdenken.

Neiman studeerde filosofie aan Harvard en de Freie Universität Berlin, ze doceerde filosofie aan Yale en de universiteit van Tel Aviv. Daarnaast is ze auteur van Slow Fire: Jewish Notes from Berlin, The Unity of Reason: Rereading Kant, Evil in Modern Thought, Moral Clarity: A Guide for Grown-up Idealists en Why Grow Up?

Prof. Susan Neiman is an American philosopher and director of the Einstein Forum in Potsdam, Germany. The goal of this institute is to engage a large audience with philosophical debates. Neiman writes a lot about the connection between the Enlightenment, moral philosophy, metaphysics and politics. In her book Moral ClarityNeiman shows how the resources of the eighteenth century Enlightenment can help us to reconstruct a progressive politics that does not repeat the mistakes of Marxism or succumb to the appeal of unreason. Her most recent book, Why Grow Up?, draws on Enlightenment philosophy to discuss the ways in which we are prevented, and prevent ourselves, from growing up.
