Dr. Zerrin Yumak is universitair docent bij het departement Informatica aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Ze onderzoekt hoe robots en virtuele avatars sociaal intelligent gedrag kunnen vertonen, zowel verbaal als non-verbaal.

Yumak leidt momenteel het project 'Embodiment and Physical Interaction', waarin met een virtueel karakter sollicitatiegespreksvaardigheden worden geoefend. Eerder werkte ze aan het project 'Autonomous virtual humans and social robots in 3D telepresence' in het BeingThere Center. Ook was ze betrokken bij diverse EU projecten, waarbij ze onder andere werkte aan een robot met menselijke gelaatstrekken die kan fungeren als gids in een museum.

Yumak behaalde haar doctoraat in Computer Science aan de Universiteit van Genève.

Ze was postdoc in Zwitserland aan de Technische Universiteit van Lausanne, en deed twee jaar onderzoek aan Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Dr. Zerrin Yumak is an assistant professor at the Department of Information and Computing Science at Utrecht University. She explores the possibility of endowing robots and virtual avatars with intelligent social behavior, both verbal and nonverbal.

Yumak currently leads the project Embodiment and Physical Interaction, developing an interactive virtual character for practicing job interview skills.

Previously, she worked on the project Autonomous Virtual Humans and Social Robots in 3D Telepresence in the BeingThere Center. She was also involved in various EU funded projects, including one that sought to develop a robot with human features that can act as a museum guide.

Yumak obtained her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Geneva. She was a postdoc in Switzerland at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and performed research for two years at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
