Burlyuk doet onderzoek naar internationale betrekkingen, Europese- en EU-politiek, Oost-Europa en de politiek van kennisproductie. Haar onderzoek richt zich op Europese externe betrekkingen, in het bijzonder Europese inspanningen om zogeheten 'third states' te transformeren door middel van de promotie van democratie, mensenrechten, handel, ontwikkelingssamenwerking en culturele interactie. Daarnaast onderzoekt ze de kolonialiteit in/van kennisplekken en de productie van kennis binnen de academische wereld. Burlyuk is betrokken bij het Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES), het Amsterdam Research Centre for Migration (ARC-M), het Amsterdam Research Centre for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS), en het Amsterdam Centre for Conflict Studies (ACCS).

Burlyuk conducts research on international relations, European and EU politics, Eastern Europe, and the politics of knowledge production. Her research focuses on Europe’s external relations, with particular attention to European Union’s efforts to transform so-called “third states” through the promotion of democracy, human rights, trade, development cooperation, and cultural interaction. In addition, she examines the coloniality of knowledge spaces and knowledge production within the academic world. Burlyuk is affiliated with the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES), the Amsterdam Research Centre for Migration (ARC-M), the Amsterdam Research Centre for Gender and Sexuality (ARC-GS), and the Amsterdam Centre for Conflict Studies (ACCS).
