Prof. dr. Peter van de Veer is directeur van het Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen.

Van der Veer gaf les in Antropologie aan de Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam, de Universiteit van Utrecht en de Universiteit van Pennsylvania. Van der Veer is verder onder andere Dean geweest van de Amsterdam School for Social Science Research en directeur van het International Institute for the Study of Islam en voorzitter van de raad van het International Institute for Asian Studies, beide in Leiden. In 1994 werd Van der Veer aangesteld als Universiteitshoogleraar aan de Universiteit van Utrecht, een positie die hij nog steeds bekleedt.

Grote publicaties van Van deer Veer zijn onder andere: Gods on Earth (LSE Monographs, 1988), Religious Nationalism (University of California Press, 1994), en Imperial Encounters (Princeton University Press, 2001).

Prof. dr. Peter van deer Veer is director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen. He taught Anthropology at the Free University of Amsterdam, at Utrecht University and the University of Pennsylvania. Van der Veer served as Dean of the Amsterdam School for Social Science Research at Amsterdam, and as Director of the International Institute for the Study of Islam and Chairman of the Board of the International Institute for Asian Studies, both in Leiden. In 1994 he was appointed as University Professor at Large at Utrecht University, a position he continues to hold.

Among his major publications are Gods on Earth (LSE Monographs, 1988), Religious Nationalism (University of California Press, 1994), and Imperial Encounters (Princeton University Press, 2001).
