What makes our food system vulnerable? And what buttons can we push to bring about a system change? With geoscientist Dr Brian Dermody (UU).

Our food system is a large living network of people, plants, and animals. Everything is connected. This means that one small change in the system can set off an unexpected chain of events with dramatic consequences. Take the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The sharp spike in gas prices due to the war made fertilizer almost unaffordable. As a result, farmers have been producing less food, which has led to higher food prices.

Sustainability scientist Dr Brian Dermody (UU) uses models to get a grip on our complex food system. How can they help us to achieve a more sustainable future?

In collaboration with the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development &amp: Future Food Utrecht (UU).
