Barn has been associate professor in Philosophy at Utrecht University since August 2021. In previous years, she worked as a lecturer at several British universities, including the New College of the Humanities in London, the University of Birmingham and the University of Oxford.

At Utrecht University, Barn is also involved with the Ethics Institute. This institute focuses on the study of practical moral issues in their societal, social and political context.

Barn's research focuses primarily on the ethical dimensions of contemporary issues. She is also interested in different perspectives on the human body and general theories of justice. Her PhD research at Oxford University explored exploitation and coercion in transactions that involve the human body.

Barn is sinds augustus 2021 universitair hoofddocent in Filosofie aan de Universiteit Utrecht. Van 2015 tot 2021 was Barn van 2015 werkzaam als docent(-assistent) aan verscheidene Britse universiteiten, waaronder University of Birmingham en University of Oxford.

Barns onderzoek richt zich voornamelijk op de verschillende perspectieven op het menselijk lichaam en algemene rechtvaardigheidstheorieën. Deze academische interesse in het menselijk lichaam komt ook naar voren uit haar promotieonderzoek aan Oxford University: daar promoveerde Barn op onderzoek naar geforceerde transactionele handelingen rond het menselijk lichaam, zoals uitbuiting.
