Prof. dr. Stephanie L. Mudge is associate professor of Sociology at the University of California, Davis.

Mudge’s areas of expertise include historical, political and economic sociology. She specializes in the theoretically-driven analysis of Western politics, economies and expertise. Mudge’s research is mainly focused on social theory, neoliberalism and Western politics.

In her latest book, Leftism Reinvented: Western Parties from Socialism to Neoliberalism (2018), she develops a century-long comparative and historical analysis of the American Democrats, the German and Swedish Social Democrats, and the British Labour Party. She traces the way traditional leftist parties embraced neoliberal economic policy, and how it led to strong electorate losses in the past few decades. The book was recently awarded the Barrington Moore Award of the American Sociological Association’s comparative history section.

Prof. dr.
